- You betcher mouse balls it can't do without 680x0 emulation! And since it
- also needs OS updates that break all older software, that's why it makes
- perfect sense to combine the 680x0 emulation and old API into one "Amiga
- emulator" running on a PowerAmiga Other Amiga users can rationalize all they
- want, but if I'm going to lay out a big chunk o' change for a new computer, I
- don't want to see any flashing-red-boxes-from-hell. I know that the original
- design team left out memory protection in the interest of performance on the
- 7MHz 68000, but with the promise of 700MHz PowerPC chips on the horizon, I
- think we can spare a few clock cycles. And here's the perfect opportunity to
- add such a feature, when you're breaking all the old software, anyway.
- If not, a Pentium (Pro) running Linux looks pretty tempting, since you can
- run DOSEMU and Executor on your X screen, in addition to the native software.
- Speaking of which, I wonder if Amiga Technologies has considered a contract
- with ARDI, the company which produces Executor, to create a 680x0 Amiga
- emulator? Their 680x0 emulation for the Intel chips is quite good, and their
- Mac emulation which does not require MacOS is also quite good.
